O.C. company adds office, 300 jobs in Florida

Ansafone Contact Centers LLC in Santa Ana will open an office with 300 full-time jobs in Ocala, Fla., starting in October.

http://www.ansafone.com/

Owner Randy Harmat made clear in a phone interview that he's not moving his company, which provides telephone customer service for other companies, and is not leaving California.

"We're at capacity in Santa Ana," he said. "We have customers across the country, and we play the time zone changes to our advantage. When our East Coast customers open at 6 a.m., it's 3 a.m. in Santa Ana...We need an East Coast office."

Ansafone is not a telemarketing firm but a phone answering service for large retailers, financial services and health care companies, Harmat stressed.

Ocala, northwest of Orlando in the center of the state, lost 1,200 jobs in one day when Taylor Bean we're partnering with the county and city," he said. "California is my home...but Ocala made me feel important. Three hundred jobs to a community that lost so many are important."

Other than being located in an enterprise zone, which has some tax breaks, Ansafone has not received any cash or incentives from Santa Ana or California, he said.

Ansafone was founded on Main Street near the Bowers Museum in 1970, said Harmat, whose father bought the company in 1990. Randy Harmat bought it in 1999.

"It had 25 employees when I bought it," he said. Ansafone now has approximately 180 employees (200 during the during the Christmas season) at an 18,000-square-foot building at Main Street and MacArthur Boulevard.

The company used to have a Kansas City office but closed it, he said.

Ways to Improve Energy Efficiency

While it is possible to improve a home's energy efficiency in any climate, the predominant weather in an area has an impact on which efficiency measures will be the most valuable. For example, in especially cold areas such as Juneau or especially hot areas such as Phoenix replacement windows can cause a marked change in the cost of heating or cooling a house, whereas the impact of new windows in a more moderate climate will be less.

Any time you set out to improve your home's energy efficiency there are three dynamics to keep in mind. First, generating energy at your home from a clean source is far more efficient. Second, lighting your home more efficiently cuts down on energy consumption. Third, heating and cooling your home more efficiently is often the single most important area of overall efficiency.

The climate that you live in will, to a great degree, dictate your ability to generate power on your property. Those who live in a rainy climate, for example, won't benefit from solar panels the way that those who live in a sunny climate will. And it's pointless to install a windmill where there isn't any wind. But if you can generate power it's a good idea to do so: energy burns off in wires, so the shorter the distance is between production and plug the better.

One exception is a geothermal well, which generates power based on the exchange of heat between one end of a rod that is sunk deep into the ground and the other end of the rod, which is exposed. The temperature below the ground is fifty-six degrees Fahrenheit all the time, so any time the temperature above the ground is different (higher or lower) a geothermal well can generate electricity.

But producing power is only one way to increase efficiency. Reducing your home's consumption of power is just as important, and one of the most significant consumers of power is lighting. This can be changed by switching high efficiency light bulbs for the standard ones or by correcting bad habits. Simply turning the lights off when you leave a room can save a lot of electricity and substantially improve efficiency.

Beyond these simple fixes, it is possible to improve the way you light your home by making better use of natural light. In older homes that tend to have smaller windows, you can make a significant change by increasing the size and quantity of those windows. Even without structural changes, using mirrors to reflect (and reuse) natural light can greatly reduce your reliance on artificial lights powered by electricity.

Most people spend the most money on heating and cooling their homes, which means that heating and cooling use the most power. This can be mitigated by installing newer, more efficient equipment, as well as by improving the insulation of your home to bring it up to today's construction standards. The better insulated a home is, the less affected it is by the temperature outside.

In addition to re-insulating the home, replacing windows can demonstrably improve efficiency. The value of new windows has been well enough established that in hot places like Los Angeles and Phoenix replacement windows qualify for rebates from most utilities. Replacing the windows creates a good (and often subsidized) opportunity to expand the size of windows wherever possible, increasing the amount of natural light available inside the home.

Raising a child: An Awesome Experience If Done Right | 2leep.in ...

As a person with a child knows, being a parent is way from an simple and easy job. As being a parent signifies getting in charge of yet another daily life, not just in financial terms but also morally. Being a parent means impacting on the longer term with easy actions today. Below are great tips to aid any parent shoulder the duty with intelligence and grace.

At times, the ideal response is not any effect by any means. Once your child tosses a temper tantrum or match, continue to be quiet. Do not try and bribe them to act, and also stay away from making irritated or caustic comments with the goal of frightening or shaming the child. Rather, keep on speaking usually, getting tasks accomplished and dealing with your child, as if the individual was not behaving up.

Just like other relationships you could have in your daily life, speaking is the key to hooking up with your little one. By letting them know you are considering what they should say, they will feel like they may believe in you. On your part talking with them, they will probably admiration you.

Usually do not set the kids to sleep later and just believe that they may sleep at night afterwards the following morning hours. That does now generally function and you will probably normally end up with a child that awakens at the regular time, but they are very cranky for the entire day.

Since the mother or father of your young kid one of the most important things to consider is how to ?childproof? your house. Produce a check list of products in the house that ought to be childproofed. Stay away from sharp edges on tables and desks and don?t abandon out little tools that the little one can consume. Make certain all cabinets and cabinets are out of reach and safely fastened. You can never consider way too many precautions when it comes to the safety of your own kid.

As an alternative to concentrating on penalties to modify your child?s behavior, placed far more concentrate on strengthening very good behavior. By complimenting or rewarding (in reason) your kids once and for all behavior, your son or daughter will become familiar with that a particular behavior or method of behaving is worthy of worth, and may aim to please you by reiterating it later on.

If you?re having difficulties to obtain your son or daughter to go to sleep each night, confer with your medical doctor about melatonin. Melatonin is actually a hormonal that can support kids with sleep at night troubles. Your medical professional can give you advice whether or not or otherwise not melatonin can be a safe option for your child.

To conclude, no-one said that it was going to be easy or that there might be a very clear route to stick to based on how to correctly boost your children. Hopefully the recommendation in this post offered you with a great backdrop in being a parent and what it requires to do well at it.

Word of the Day: Focus | Notes From the Lane

We've all had those days right? You sit down to get some work done and the world and it's mother decide that they just have to have your attention right then and there. Next thing you know the day is shot, it's 6 pm, time to cook dinner, tidy up the house and flop in to bed. As you lay there trying to fall asleep you realise tomorrows to do list is exactly the same as todays because nothing quite got accomplished.

It's not that we've all got ADD, or too much to do, not enough hours in the day or too many demands on our time it's the darn electronics!

Now I have to say that I'm not exactly in the realms of ancientness yet, but even I remember the good old days when things didn't make noise or demand instant attention. If a letter arrived in the mail box the door didn't DING! at me, If I didn't answer a phone call because I was too far away from the phone I didn't get an instant PING! announcing a new message that must be listened too immediately or the Ting! Ting! Ting! of friend or family member then texting me whatever vital message needed to be communicated. There were no walls in my house where everyone I knew could see if I was in the room or not and immediately transmit a message that popped up on the wall right in front of my eyes regardless of what else I was attempting to do at that particular moment, assuming that I was there and could and WOULD answer them immediately, and customers waited until a shop was open before attempting to ask the sales associates a question.

It's a different world alright and it's a world that makes it increasingly hard to focus and really get things done.

I don't know about you but I run a home based business. This means that I don't have structured hours that I work. Some days I work from the moment I get up until one or two in the morning, other days I might spend the day with friends and then work all evening long. While this has a fantastic sense of freedom it also comes with a price, it's really easy to lose focus and accomplish nothing.

So I put this out there to everyone with the same kind of problems, whether you have a home based antiques business or any other business where the demands on your time from friends and family consistantly invade your focus. I have one thing to say.

It's okay.

It's okay not to look at that email the instant your computer pings. It's fine to let your phone go to voice mail, you can read a text message in an hour it's highly unlikely that the content of any of these things requires absolute immediate attention.

While it's very conscientious and a great business practice to answer emails from customers as swiftly as possible it's also important to get your photographs taken, your listings written and submitted to your shops, your packing and shipping done and for it not to take all day to get it done. You need to have time for yourself at the end (or beginning) of the day. Time for you to put down your business and enjoy the home you work so hard for.

In conclusion and the point I've been leading up to is this. I recently challenged myself to upload listings for an hour. For just one hour I was not going to look at facebook when it pinged at me, I wasn't going to read an email or answer a phone call. In that time I managed to upload 20 prepared listings to two of my shops online. 20! Usually that would take me half of the day. Four or five hours. Here I was and I'd done it in an hour! That left me 3 or 4 hours to get something else done or just sit back with my knitting and do something for me. Wow! I thought, I need to do that more often. So here I am being distracted writing a blog, but when I'm not I set myself goals; Small chunks of work that I can complete in an insignificant amount of time, and for that time I set the rest of the world aside. I can read the emails and texts later, respond to them all at once and again save time. My business is improving but my personal life is too.

You should try it sometime :)

NFL camps can't open soon enough for this bunch

Now that NFL training camps are up and running, perhaps the police blotter full of star players will begin to dry up.

Even with a relatively short offseason, a whole bunch of big names wound up in big trouble with the law.

Road rage. Family violence. DUIs. Pot.

Seems as if a day didn't go by these past few weeks without a player apologizing for his misdeeds, knowing full well the league is watching and suspensions could be forthcoming.

So from Dez to Dumervil, Marshawn to Mikel, here's a Pick 6 of problem players and their legal woes:

___

MARSHALL LYNCH, RB, SEAHAWKS:

Charged with driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol and driving while having a blood-alcohol level of .08 by the Alameda County, Calif., district attorney, on July 18. Two days later, Lynch apologized for the "negative attention resulting from my recent actions." He was arrested after the California Highway Patrol reported seeing him weaving on Interstate 880 in the Oakland, Calif., area. A CHP incident report described Lynch driving a Ford Econoline van and having two near collisions with two other vehicles driving in adjacent lanes. He entered a not guilty plea on Thursday.

___

ELVIS DUMERVIL, LB, BRONCOS:

Arrested in Miami Beach on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, with police calling it a road rage incident. The police report says Dumervil and another man were stuck in traffic on July 14, got into an argument with a female driver, and the two men displayed weapons. Dumervil told police he didn't have a gun; officers say they found one in the car's glove compartment.

___

DEZ BRYANT, WR, COWBOYS:

Arrested on July 16, two days after his mother called 911 to complain her son was assaulting her. Angela Bryant allegedly told authorities Dez Bryant hit her in the face with his ball cap and tore her shirt. Since then, Bryant's mother has asked prosecutors not to pursue the case, but a decision has not yet been reached.

China demanded removal of Taiwan flag at Olympics

Olympic organisers said on Thursday that Taiwan's flag had been taken down from a London display at the request of the Chinese embassy.

The banner was removed from a row of national flags hanging over Regent Street, one of London's busiest shopping roads, and replaced on Wednesday with that of Taiwan's Olympic committee.

This flag has been used by Taiwan at Olympic Games since the 1980s, when the International Olympic Committee (IOC) ruled that the island could not compete under its formal name, the Republic of China.

Games organisers LOCOG said they had advised the Regent Street Association, which represents retailers and is in charge of the display, to remove the Taiwan flag after a complaint from China's embassy.

"The Chinese Embassy informed us that the incorrect flag was on display, and we passed this information on to the Regent Street Association," a LOCOG spokesman told AFP.

The Chinese embassy in London did not respond to repeated requests to comment.

China and Taiwan have been ruled separately since the end of a civil war in 1949, but Beijing still claims sovereignty over the island and has vowed to bring about reunification even if it means war.

Taiwan's representative in Britain, Shen Lyushun, insists that the IOC ruling on its flag only applies to Olympic venues and has demanded an explanation.

A spokesman for Shen said: "This agreement doesn't prevent us from using our national flag outside Games venues -- and this flag is in a business area, not a venue.

"We do hope our national flag will be put back in its original place."

The row comes after a mix-up over North Korea's national flag prompted its women's football team to walk off the pitch on Wednesday in an embarrassing start to the Olympics.

London organisers apologised after the North Korean squad were pictured next to the flag of South Korea -- with whom the North is officially still at war -- at their opening match against Colombia at Hampden Park in Glasgow.

The North Koreans left the pitch in protest but were persuaded to return an hour later after the mistake was rectified, and went on to win the match 2-0.

Facebook's first public quarter proves solid

NEW YORK (AP) ? Facebook's first earnings report as a public company had solid numbers, but in the end it landed with a thud ? much like its rocky initial public offering two months ago.

Facebook reported stronger-than-expected revenue and a gain in user numbers Thursday. But investors weren't impressed and after a brief spike, its stock tumbled stock fell nearly 9 percent, or $2.38, to $24.47 in after-hours trading. It had closed down 8.5 percent, or $2.50, at $26.84.

"They didn't break any banks," said Debra Aho Williamson, an analyst at research firm eMarketer. "They did not come out any better than anybody had expected."

Even so, Facebook Inc. said revenue grew 32 percent to $1.18 billion from $895 million a year ago.

Adjusted earnings of $295 million, or 12 cents per share, matched Wall Street's expectations.

Analysts, on average had expected slightly lower revenue of $1.16 billion, according to FactSet.

Facebook said it had 955 million active monthly users as of June 30, up 29 percent from a year earlier.

Overall the Menlo Park, Calif.-based company posted a loss of $157 million, or 8 cents per share in the April-June period, mainly due to compensation expenses it incurred when it gave employees $1.3 billion in restricted stock and related taxes as part of the IPO. The loss compared with earnings of $240 million, or 11 cents per share, in the second quarter a year ago.

The results come two months after Facebook's stock flopped on its first trading day, on May 18. The day began with glitches with the Nasdaq stock market that delayed trading by half an hour. It didn't get much better from there. Despite months of hoopla that had investors thinking it would soar, the stock closed just 23 cents above its $38 IPO price. It has not reached that level since.

Though Facebook had a lot riding on its first public report, Wall Street's outlook was muted, which could be a reason for the stock's decline.

Investors were likely holding out hope that Facebook would far exceed expectations ?even though the company effectively warned investors before its IPO that Wall Street's expectations were too high. In a filing issued a week before its IPO, for instance, Facebook said its mobile users are growing at a faster pace than the number of ads on its mobile platform.

Analysts took that as a sign that their estimates were out of whack and many of them reduced their estimates for Facebook's projected revenue and earnings.

That said, Facebook didn't start showing ads on its mobile app until this spring. While it's true that it was late to the game ? after all, its mobile user base is growing fast ? it doesn't mean it won't be able to grow mobile advertising revenue in the future.

Overall, Facebook said its revenue from advertising totaled $992 million, a 28 percent increase from the same quarter last year. That number accounted for 84 percent of total revenue. The company did not say what portion was from mobile advertising.

The company did not provide an outlook in its earnings press release ? another possible reason for investors' disappointment.

How our brains see men as people and women as body parts: Both genders process images of men, women differently

ScienceDaily (July 25, 2012) ? When casting our eyes upon an object, our brains either perceive it in its entirety or as a collection of its parts. Consider, for instance, photo mosaics consisting of hundreds of tiny pictures that when arranged a certain way form a larger overall image: In fact, it takes two separate mental functions to see the mosaic from both perspectives.

A new study suggests that these two distinct cognitive processes also are in play with our basic physical perceptions of men and women -- and, importantly, provides clues as to why women are often the targets of sexual objectification.

The research, published in the European Journal of Social Psychology, found in a series of experiments that participants processed images of men and women in very different ways. When presented with images of men, perceivers tended to rely more on "global" cognitive processing, the mental method in which a person is perceived as a whole. Meanwhile, images of women were more often the subject of "local" cognitive processing, or the objectifying perception of something as an assemblage of its various parts.

The study is the first to link such cognitive processes to objectification theory, said Sarah Gervais, assistant professor of psychology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the study's lead author.

"Local processing underlies the way we think about objects: houses, cars and so on. But global processing should prevent us from that when it comes to people," Gervais said. "We don't break people down to their parts -- except when it comes to women, which is really striking. Women were perceived in the same ways that objects are viewed."

In the study, participants were randomly presented with dozens of images of fully clothed, average-looking men and women. Each person was shown from head to knee, standing, with eyes focused on the camera.

After a brief pause, participants then saw two new images on their screen: One was unmodified and contained the original image, while the other was a slightly modified version of the original image that comprised a sexual body part. Participants then quickly indicated which of the two images they had previously seen.

The results were consistent: Women's sexual body parts were more easily recognized when presented in isolation than when they were presented in the context of their entire bodies. But men's sexual body parts were recognized better when presented in the context of their entire bodies than they were in isolation.

"We always hear that women are reduced to their sexual body parts; you hear about examples in the media all the time. This research takes it a step further and finds that this perception spills over to everyday women, too," Gervais said. "The subjects in the study's images were everyday, ordinary men and women ? the fact that people are looking at ordinary men and women and remembering women's body parts better than their entire bodies was very interesting."

Also notable is that the gender of participants doing the observing had no effect on the outcome. The participant pool was evenly divided between men and women, who processed each gender's bodies similarly: Regardless of their gender, perceivers saw men more "globally" and women more "locally."

"We can't just pin this on the men. Women are perceiving women this way, too," Gervais said. "It could be related to different motives. Men might be doing it because they're interested in potential mates, while women may do it as more of a comparison with themselves. But what we do know is that they're both doing it."

Would there be an antidote to a perceiver's basic cognitive processes that lead women to be reduced and objectified? Researchers said some of the study's results suggested so. When the experiment was adjusted to create a condition where it was easier for participants to employ "global" processing, the sexual body part recognition bias appeared to be alleviated. Women were more easily recognizable in the context of their whole bodies instead of their various sexual body parts.

Because the research presents the first direct evidence of the basic "global" vs. "local" framework, the authors said it could provide a theoretical path forward for more specific objectification work.

"Our findings suggest people fundamentally process women and men differently, but we are also showing that a very simple manipulation counteracts this effect, and perceivers can be prompted to see women globally, just as they do men," Gervais said. "Based on these findings, there are several new avenues to explore."

3 brothers from 1 family to become priests

When Luke Strand started college nine years ago, he wanted to earn a marketing degree, a job in the business world, then a house and children.

Now he's a priest and that's not all. His brother, Vincent, is on his way to being ordained a Jesuit priest and their youngest brother, Jake, was ordained in the spring.

The family calling is remarkable at a time when fewer men, especially in the U.S., are choosing the Roman Catholic clergy. More than 3,200 of the 17,800 U.S. parishes don't have resident priests, according to the Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate at Georgetown University. As of last year, the total number of priests in the U.S. had decreased 14 percent from 2000.

So why did three men from one family sacrifice what they thought they wanted in their lives to become priests? Even their family was blindsided. The brothers' parents, who live in Dousman, Wis., never encouraged it or discouraged it ? they just never discussed it.

"It takes you off guard, (having) one after the other come and talk to us," said their mother, Bernadette Strand.

The boys went to Catholic grade school, attended church every Sunday and prayed before dinner but weren't "eccentric," according to their father, Jerry. Their aunt is a member of the Poor Clare Sisters in Kokomo, Ind. His mother, Ruth, said she and her husband hoped one of their grandsons would join the priesthood.

"Grandma would always say, 'Maybe one of you boys is going to be a priest' and I think we'd just laugh: 'Whatever, grandma.' I mean we're not going to study to be a priest," Luke Strand said.

They say they all discovered their calling at the end of high school or college. All three wrestled with the decision for years, mainly because of the celibacy vow.

The first to attend seminary was the oldest, Luke, now 31 and described as the peacemaker and most social.

He said he started getting involved in the campus ministry at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and found a lot of young people "getting fired up for the faith." But he found the priest shortage intimidating, he said. He worried he would have to serve an entire county by himself. But it was also one of his motivations.

By his senior year he found himself living with a priest in a homeless shelter "radically serving the poor and applying to the seminary. And I remember thinking to myself: 'How did I get here? Like, what's this all about?' And ultimately it was about service in the church."

He's now working as vocations director for the Milwaukee Archdiocese, recruiting priests.

Described as the family academic, Vincent Strand, 29, is studying German in Austria as part of his 11 years of formation before he's ordained.

He said his calling came at Marquette University, a Jesuit school in Milwaukee. Much like Luke, he wanted to make a lot of money as a neurologist, get married and have kids.

"I do distinctly remember thinking: 'Oh good. (Luke's) going to be the priest. I don't have to now.'"

But a theology professor's teachings showed him "God was real in a way I hadn't (realized) before," he said. And he realized he could have an intellectual life that involved God.

He considered devoting himself to God even if he got married but he knew he'd only go halfway and he wanted to "completely empty" himself. He broke up with a longtime college girlfriend to pursue his calling.

"The celibacy and that vow of celibacy has been one of the real things I love about the life and one the very freeing things about the life," he said.

The youngest brother, 26-year-old Jacob, had the hardest time deciding. The idea frightened him.

He started thinking about the priesthood more in college, though. He originally looked into ways to serve while still being able to have a family. Then God told him to give up everything. He said he decided at the end of his sophomore year in college that he would enter the seminary.

"Initially, I was like, 'Well, it's impossible that I could also be called because Luke and Vince are taking care of that duty. I don't need to do that.' But what I found it wasn't a duty at all. It was a gift."

He was ordained this spring and he's now at St. Charles Parish in Hartland for the summer. He will then study another year in Rome to complete his theology license.

They all say they're happy.

"I think society, when it looks at the priesthood, it thinks it's a bunch of really ancient people that are angry and aren't enjoying life," Luke Strand said. "Man, go look at the reality of priests' lives. They love what they do. They are joyful. They're happy. They are free. Isn't that what people are looking for?"

Their parents say they have found peace with their sons' decisions and let go of their dreams for a herd of grandchildren, though they still have their 23-year-old daughter, Theresa Krausert, who married last summer.

"We let go of that, it's not about us," Jerry Strand said. "It really has nothing to do with our joy because we will or won't. That's part of the sacrifice."

Krausert said nothing has changed with her older brothers, who always watched out for her.

"I think they swear more than I do," she said.

And they still pick on each other.

"We used to call him the boy deacon because he has a baby face and now we have to call him the boy priest," Luke Strand said about Jacob, sitting nearby.

"Your one hair is out of place," Jacob kidded Luke, who is balding.

Bernadette Strand said the family has heard lots of reactions like, "Is your daughter going to become a nun?" Or "I can't believe how normal you are."

"It's almost kind of ridiculous because of course we're normal and all of the boys grew up totally normal," she said.

The brothers say it's a mystery to them why they all were chosen.

"Why is it so important?" Luke Strand said. "Because we realize there's something beyond ourselves."

self help - How To Jack Up Your Social Skills And Enjoy Interacting ...

People are social animals. Otherwise we wouldn't have built things like cities, time shares, and Facebook. As long as there's been human history, we have operated in large groups. We owe our very survival to the power of groups. However, there are plenty of us who feel uncomfortable in groups. There's nothing that terrifies us worse that walking alone into a room of strangers. The good news is that there are some things you can do to make this not only easier, but fun and enjoyable. When that happens, you'll realize how much other people have to offer, and how much they can enrich our lives.

Having a head filled with interesting topics is the easiest way to get over your anxiety. Many people are afraid of being put on the spot, and not having anything to say. Make up a list of your hobbies, interests, and keep up on current events. That way you'll have a lot more to contribute to the conversation. Don't be afraid to express your opinion. People want to hear it.

It's also a good idea to get an idea of the friends you'd like to make at these gatherings. That way you won't be walking up to every single person and trying to start off a conversation. You'll either come across as a desperate creep or some kind of politician running for office. Just single out a few people who seem interesting, and then talk to them. Don't worry about what other people think.

One problem many people have is making a conversation seem natural, and not forced. The easiest way is to simply ask other people open ended questions. Then listen to their answer, and ask them any follow up questions about things you are interested in. Some of the greatest conversationalists never talk much. They just ask questions, and are generally interested in other people's answers.

A good way to introduce yourself is to say your name, why you are that the event you're at, and what you do for a living. Then relax and let people ask you any questions they want. If they don't, then ask them some things about their jobs, what they do in their free time, and just listen to their answer. Just relax and let the conversation flow wherever it wants to flow.

Of course, you shouldn't talk about anything related to politics, religion, people's ages, or how much they weigh. This is just asking for trouble. It's also always a good idea to be a little self depreciating. It helps other people feel more at ease.

If you keep these tips in mind, and practice them whenever you can, you'll be well on your way to becoming a relaxed, social operator. You'll soon look forward to social events, and all the interesting people you'll meet there.

To easily apply the most effective mind control techniques around, head on over to the mind control technology site today. You'll learn everything you need to know to rapidly succeed in your life.
