(AP) ? Hours into their lawn-chair balloon flight, two men made a hard landing after they were hit by hail and snow as thunderstorms swept into central Oregon. But their back-yard aircraft floated away.

Kent Couch and Fareed Lafta were about seven hours into their flight Saturday when they descended, coming down near the community of Post, about 30 miles east of their starting point. But after they scrambled out of the contraption, it floated away, flight organizer Mark Knowles said.

"They came down hard," Knowles said by cellphone. "The craft went back up. It's sitting up in the sky right above us."

A flight website tracker showed it continuing east across Oregon.

Couch, a gas station owner, and Lazfta, an Iraqi adventurer, were trying to fly from Oregon to Montana in tandem lawn chairs suspended from party balloons.

Knowles said the balloonists were pelted by hail and snow and buffeted by turbulence before reaching the ground but they were not injured.

"Everybody is walking around," he said.

Knowles said he did not know yet how they would recover the craft, or whether they might try again. "I think they need a little time to relax," he said. "The landing was very intense."

Earlier Saturday, about 90 volunteers and several hundred onlookers counted down and cheered as the pair lifted off from Couch's Shell gas station in Bend.

Volunteers had filled 350 5-foot diameter red, white, blue and black balloons with helium and tied them to Couch's homemade tandem lawn chair rig.

The balloons were arranged in bunches to represent the colors of the U.S. and Iraqi flags. An American flag flew from the bottom of the framework supporting the chairs.

The duo safely cleared a two-story motel, a coffee stand and a light post, then floated about 30 miles north. Winds pushed them south before sending them east, the direction they wanted to go.

But thunderstorms in the region forced them to abort the flight, descending from an altitude of about 10,000 feet, Knowles said.

Before the flight, Couch said landing was the scariest part of his several lawn chair balloon flights. He descends by shooting out balloons with his BB rifle. His rig got away from him once, but finally came down.

"It takes six months after you land for your brain to get over the fear and just the emotions," he said.

The two men had hoped to fly through the night across the mountains of Idaho and touch down Sunday morning in southwestern Montana. Because they expected to float at an altitude of 15,000-18,000 feet, where temperatures drop to near zero, they packed sleeping bags.

Their rig included 800 pounds of ballast ? red Kool-Aid in 40-gallon barrels. Other than a GPS, navigation gear, satellite phone, oxygen, two-way radios, eight cameras, and parachutes, they were carrying two Red Ryder BB rifles and a pair of blowguns to shoot out enough balloons to land when the time is right.

Electronic gear was powered by a solar panel. A flare gun was tied to the framework for emergencies. They also carried the ashes of a family friend to spread over the high desert.

Lance Schliep, an appliance repairman, helped Couch with the latest design, made entirely from items bought at hardware stores and junk from Couch's garage.

"It's about as redneck as you can get," Couch said.

Lafta, a mountain climber and sky diver, said he shared Couch's childhood dream of floating like a cloud. He sent Couch an email two winters ago after reading about Couch's earlier flights.

The flight was a warm-up for plans to fly a tandem lawn chair balloon rig in Baghdad sometime in the future.

"My target is to inspire young people, especially in the Mideast," Lafta said. "I want to tell them, 'I didn't give up. Keep standing. Smile. This is the way to defeat terrorists.'"

Couch said receiving Lafta's email during the winter, at a time he was bored, inspired him to go aloft again.

"I never really thought I would do it again," Couch said. "I thought I had had enough excitement.

"I started thinking, it sounds fun."

They planned to fly over Iraq last year, but ran into problems getting permission from the government.

Couch has said he was inspired by a TV show about the 1982 lawn chair flight over Los Angeles by truck driver Larry Walters, who gained urban myth immortality.

Couch's first time up was in 2006, when he flew a distance of 99 miles before the balloons started popping. In 2007, he flew 193 miles before running low on helium and landing in the sagebrush of Eastern Oregon.

In 2008, things went more smoothly. After lifting off at dawn July 5 with the help of volunteers, he floated at 35 mph across the high desert, reaching his goal of crossing the Idaho border. That's when he pulled out his trusty BB rifle and shot out enough balloons to land in a pasture outside the farming community of Cambridge, Idaho.

Couch was at it again in 2010, racing another lawn chair balloonist in a flight that went about 70 miles.

Article Marketing: It Is Not Rocket Science43302

Articles can be used to promote products, services and individuals. Article marketing is probably the most reliable form of promotion available and the really great thing about it is that it can be done without spending a penny!

Sometimes I receive questions from would-be article marketers, questions that seem as though someone has been trying to plant a seed of fear in their minds. Let me say this loud and clear, article marketing is not rocket science.

This is basic communication. Everyone communicates. Even if you cannot access the keyboard on the computer, with dictation tools you can effectively write articles. Your articles can even be translated into various languages.

So to ease your mind, if you are thinking about writing articles but you are on the fence for some reason it is time to simply start. That is right. All you have to do is decide to write and begin writing.

Forget what you may have heard about some master marketer that has a secret formula to success that only he knows about because the truth is we all know how to communicate and the best articles seem to be the ones that are written in a natural tone and in a simplistic format.

I am not going to give you rigid guidelines to follow, that would totally be the opposite of my intention here. But I will offer some suggestions, please ensure the following components are included in your articles:

1) Title
2) Introduction
3) Information
4) Conclusion
5) Resource Box

When choosing a title try to come up with something that is unique and that will grab attention. It is also important to use keywords in your title.

Articles should begin with an introduction of some sort. I have read some articles that begin with a compelling story that puts the author as the lead character. This type of introduction, if well written, can pull readers into the article topic and grab their interest.

The next part of the article is the body. This is the meat or heart of the article. Your readers should find their answers somewhere in this section. Just a hint on formatting, always break up large blocks of text. Structure your article with short sentences and short paragraphs. This will make your article easier on the eyes and therefore easier to read. That may mean that it will get read more often resulting in the success you hoped for.

Use a final paragraph as a conclusion or summary. This is simply a quick wrap up of what you have told your readers in the article. Remind them of the major points.

Your resource box is very important. This is the area that you are allowed to include promotions and links to your website. I like to begin the first sentence here as if the article never ended. Always have something to offer the readers, an incentive for clicking through to your site. A free report or ebook related to the article topic usually works very well.

You will find that writing articles becomes easier the more you write. Do not be afraid to let your personality shine through. That is what makes your articles unique. Article marketing is a proven method and it will work for you as it has for thousands of other people. Give it a try, you have nothing to lose because it is free.

Q&A: How do I invest in stocks/gold?

Answer:

Local coin show / shop or apmex.com for gold ? Ameritade.com for stocks

Max Keisers guest Eric Sprott talks about the commodities prices, and how the sudden downturn in prices is a temporary blip from profit takers. The underlying problem of G20 governments smashing the value of their currencies remains, so people continue to put their savings into anything that the governments cannot print or easily get their hands on. The whole G20 ponzi fiat currency is being killed off by their governments, and people are protecting what they have with rising costs of commodities. Recorded from Russia Today, Keiser Report, 12 May 2011.

South Africa Train Crash Kills 19, Injures Dozens

JOHANNESBURG (AP) ? A freight train collided with a truck carrying farm workers at a crossing in eastern South Africa Friday, killing at least 19 people and leaving bodies strewn across the scene of the accident.

"The accident was messy," said government spokesman Thulani Sibuyi describing heads and limbs severed from bodies.

At least two dozen people were injured in the accident in Mpumalanga, an eastern province in South Africa, said an emergency spokesman Jeff Wicks.

A final death toll is yet to be established.

"You have scattered bodies. It is difficult to count or to come up with a conclusive number," said provincial spokesman Joseph Mabuza.

Sibuyi said that the owner of the truck is currently being questioned by the police.

Traffic accidents with high death tolls are common in South Africa, and often are blamed on negligent drivers and badly maintained roads.

In 2010, a man driving 14 children to school evaded barriers at a crossing near Cape Town and a train crashed into it, killing 10 of his young passengers. The driver was convicted of murder in the deaths of the students and attempted murder in the case of the four surviving children. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison. Transportation officials hailed the tough charges and sentence, saying that could help deter reckless driving.

Bill Clinton perplexed by Romney's tax statements

(AP) ? Former President Bill Clinton says Mitt Romney's financial record is a matter of legitimate campaign scrutiny because he's been selling himself as a fix-it man on the economy.

Clinton tells NBC's "Today" show Romney's hesitation to release all of his tax returns "struck me as a little odd." Romney has released a full tax filing only for 2010.

Clinton says Romney's record as the head of private equity firm Bain Capital is fair game and says taking a microscopic look at Romney's finances is "just as relevant as going over m y record as governor when I ran for president."

He says voters "ought to make up their own mind" whether they support someone who apparently sought to minimize his federal tax liability by parking large sums of money overseas.

Samsung planning to launch Galaxy Note 2 on August 30

Samsung is all set to launch a new version of its popular Galaxy Note smartphone, probably to be called as Galaxy Note 2, on the coming 30th August this year.

According to the Korean Digital Daily, "Samsung is planning to have an 'Unpacked' event for the Galaxy Note 2. It should happen on August 30 - a day before the IFA expo kicks off in Berlin, Germany."

Galaxy Note 2

The Galaxy Note was the first device to sport a 5.3 inch HD Super Amoled display. But the Galaxy Note 2 is expected to have a slightly larger 5.5-inch display with WSXGA+ (1680?1050) and 360 pixel density. The reason for not going in with a full HD resolution is that human eye can't perceive separate pixels if the pixel density is over 300 ppi, making it pointless. The Galaxy Note 2 will feature Super Amoled display with a similar PenTile matrix as the Galaxy S3.

Samsung is expected to utilise the Exynos 5250 processor which is built on latest ARM Cortex-A15 CPU processor architecture along with a much faster graphic engine for superior performance. Along with that the Galaxy Note 2 is also likely to get a 1.5 GB of RAM for clutter free operations. The Galaxy Note 2 is likely to have 15-megapixel camera with improved lens and image sensor for better images and videos.

If the news is to be believed then we will be much closer to the expected launch date for the device which earlier was for the month of October this year.
